We sat down with Tyler Mohrbacher (T-Mo) our Summer Program Director for a short interview about this summer’s “More Than” Sports Camps.

What year was this for you working for the “More Than” Sports Camps?

Tyler: This was my 12th year helping as either a counselor or an age group coodinator. This was technically my first year as the Program Director.

How was your role different this year as the Program Director?

Tyler: Well I had to find a balance of how to directly get to coach the kids vs. making sure the overall program was running smoothly. It took me a little time but I was able to find that balance. I really had to do more help with making sure that the staff was cared for and on the same page for the day at hand and that all activities were running smoothly.

What would you say that you learned this summer?

Tyler: I definitely learned the importance of serving others, and investing in the counselors, so they could invest in the campers. I also saw a lot more of the details that go into each days activities and the clean-up required. I really saw that I could still have an impact in people’s lives too, which I feared maybe I would lose that direct contact but that wasn’t exactly the case and I had fun taking on new roles.

How did you see God at work through you and the camps?

Tyler: The fellowship of the counselors and interactions were amazing! It’s always fun to see how the group of counselors come together. I loved hearing and seeing people’s stories and testimonies and how campers were impacted. On a personal level I really feel like God showed me that the things done in service and maybe not spotlight moments matter and that God can definitely use those people and moments.

What are some of the crazy and fun things you love doing at Skybacher Camps?

The skits are always so fun. Getting to be a character with my dad and my brother is always a highlight! Do silly goal celebrations and dances is great. I’ve always been the slip-n-slide boost machine (helping push kids down the slide) and I was able to get back to that for several weeks. I got to do a lot of DJ-ing this summer and picking out songs that everyone could dance which was a blast.

Were there any favorite days or moments?

The second to last day of Soccer Camp II is a day I will remember for a long time. We had a talent show that was off the charts, and we had the slip-n-slide, and we ended the day with a counselor soccer game. I loved that day. I love the smiles and joy of the 4-team game we do on the last day and the many little heavenly pictures while the camp jumps around and celebrates.

Anything else that impacted you?

I just loved seeing new counselors and people that maybe never had that confidence in their life that they could make a difference in someone’s life really excel and get it! That brings me great joy.

We love Tyler’s heart and what he brings every summer to the “More Than” Sports Camps. Tyler will be continuing on with Skybacher Ministries as Program Director and Sports Missionary. If you would like to support Tyler you can donate through our various avenues and tag or put Tyler in the memo.
