I’ll be honest I don’t really like being around people, or at least I thought I didn’t. See I would tell you that I’m an introvert and would rather spend an hour in isolation, than an hour talking to someone. But over the years God has changed my heart and the call he has on my life puts me right in front of people, and in community all the time. As the athletic seasons of basketball and soccer came to a close, I was craving being away from people and crowds – I was drained. I wanted away from people and the communities in which I was a part of.

We were so close to getting that break. We were gonna head to Kalahari to hang out with the Freedom and Skybacher community and then take a brief respite before the spring sports got rolling again. And then Covid-19 hit while we were in Kalahari, and by the time we returned home the shelves were clear and social distancing had begun.

It’s funny because I remember walking around Kalahari which was filled with only people from the Freedom and Skybacher community really. As I talked to people I kept thinking these people are crazy, odd, misfits, weird, and just straight up nuts! (keep reading please! haha!) I also thought they were awesome, fun, unique, creative, loving, and beautiful people and I love being a part of these communities! I love it because I’m all of those things as well, a misfit, odd, unique, creative, fun, and straight up nuts! I found myself thanking God for the people he had surrounded me with, the same people that I’m often asking to be away from.

As I spend more days in isolation away from people, I’m reminded that we were never meant to be alone, or have the feeling that we are in this alone! We are meant to be in community! From the very beginnings God saw the need for community. The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Genesis 2:18 So dare I say I miss people, and I miss my community!

We will get through this, and I believe we will all be better people. I for one will appreciate being around people so much more, even those that are misfits, odd, or unique, that’s Bulldog Nation! That’s Skybacher Sports Mob, that’s Beaver County and it’s also my family, my community, and me!!! Miss you all stay safe! Trust in Him!!!

Bless your enemies; no cursing under your breath. Laugh with your happy friends when they’re happy; share tears when they’re down. Get along with each other; don’t be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don’t be the great somebody. Romans 12:16 The Message.
